Earlier today, "The Search for the Math Wizard 2003," an event organized by the Math club, was held at the DPS Gym. Representatives from the different high school sections pitted their mathematical knowledge against each other. IV-LK Santos was represented by our very own Jonnel Joyce Centeno. Due to the fact that the Physics project was being continued by the few LKS students who bothered to go to school and help in its construction, approximately only 4 students were able to watch the event. Prankoys JJC was unable to observe the other year levels' competitions, as urgent business called him out of the gym after the contest. Ralph Martin Isip of IV-Avellana won first place, getting a flimsy medal and P300 in cash. Jonnel Centeno came out in second place, winning the same type of medal (cheapskates...) and P200 in cash. She was warmly congratulated by the rest of the students of IV-LK Santos. Jonnel has also been chosen as a contestant for the upcoming Physics competition on Friday, along with Cherry Anne Lumacad and Lina Karla Bartolata. However, according to her, they won't be cooperating in a team. It seems this one is going to be an every-man-for-himself event, folks.

Aside from the Math competition, the Physics project also took up a significant portion of the day. It took up pretty much the whole day, actually. The project, costing far less than it appears, was plagued with problems from the very beginning. First off was the reluctance of some students to assist in the construction. It didn't help that some parts of the project weren't made very well (my dam would be a perfect example of shoddy workmanship), either. Lack of proper materials was also a problem. Most of the project was constructed from recycled materials, reducing the cost, but in some cases also reducing the quality of the end result; the mountain nearly collapsed after its carton underside was drenched with water, weakening the material. LKS students took quick action, propping up the weakened portion with some spare pipes. Numerous leaks are still present in the project, though. For a project of its size, the work done by the LKS students was very impressive. The entire thing was constructed and assembled in a matter of days, three to be exact. Some people even mistook it for the star section's work (Speaking of which... for you people out there from the star sections: Let's just forget about that last article I wrote, eh? I feel pretty bad about making it. Peace. -Prankoys JJC). The project has been left in front of the clinic, where it is planned to stay on display for the next three days. Not bad for the section most disliked by teachers...

Also, Prankoys was able to acquire his grandfather's Canon AE-1, and took a whole film's worth of pictures earlier today (the pictures will be uploaded on the 1st of February, which is when Prankoys is going to get the film developed). It's not a high-tech digital camera, but it'll suffice, what with the wide-angle and telephoto lenses that come with it. It should be enough until Prankoys is allowed to bring the family's digital camera.

(Apologies for the length of the article. I had nothing better to do but write. -Prankoys JJC)
