After enduring two channel takeovers, the Diliman IRC crew has managed to register the channel #Dilimanians for our use. Operators have been assigned, and the Undernet bot X is now ever-present in the channel. The population of the channel has grown to an average of 20 people around 8:00 PM. These people usually stay in the channel until around 11:00 PM or 12:00 AM, at which point they drop one by one.

Here's some #Dilimanians history for you...

In the middle of the schoolyear, Eugene Patrick Balot and Lester Ibarra, along with some other people, formed the #Dilimaniacz channel on the UnderNet. Seeing that spreading the news of the channel's existence by mere word of mouth was inefficient, they sought the help of the Gummy Group, which was then in the progress of getting their newly-redesigned LKS site on its feet. The Gummy Group accepted, and posted an announcement on the site. Those who saw the announcement figured "what the heck" and decided to join the channel.

That's not to say the site was the sole reason for the news of the channel to spread. Eugene and Lester's word-of-mouth campaign worked pretty well, and with the help of some strategically placed chalk announcements on classroom blackboards, knowledge of the channel's existence began to spread.

In the early days (and even up to now), the seniors were the most populous in the channel. The juniors came in roughly a month after the channel was formed. There are some freshmen, but not too many of them. Strangely enough, the sophomores are the least numerous in the channel. Wait. No, that's not strange. Never mind.

The first channel, #Dilimaniacz, was supposed to be registered a few months ago, but the entry of a takeover bot, "optixb0t," screwed things up. The chatters were evacuated to #Dilimaniacs, which in a matter of weeks was taken over by people from another school. By this time, optixb0t had disappeared from #Dilimaniacz, and so the chatters returned there, seeking sanctuary from the takeover squadron. Unfortunately, this sanctuary lasted only a few days, as the takeover squadron decided that #Dilimaniacs was not enough. They took control of #Dilimaniacz, leaving the rightful owners of the channel in the dirt. Not about to be beaten into submission by the oppressors, the chatters left #Dilimaniacs and #Dilimaniacz completely, creating a new channel, #Dilimanians. Clones were left in the old channels to redirect everyone from DPS to the new channel, and extra care was taken not to be in the new channel and the stolen ones simultaneously to avoid detection.

Under constant threat of another takeover, Eugene sought help from his contacts in #lsca. A pair of bots, Eowebrind and Zealot, were sent into the channel to hold it and protect it from the takeover squadron. The channel secured, Eugene began the registration process for the channel. Within two weeks, the channel application was accepted. This is the present state of the channel.

So what are you waiting for? Fire up mIRC (or if you don't have it, click here) and head on over to the UnderNet now, channel #Dilimanians. Peak hours are 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM. We'll be waiting for you.
